Election Day is 150 days away. America? or Trump?
--
Election day is 150 days from today. As I write this, it’s June 5th, 2020. On November 3rd, 2020, we have an important decision to make as a nation. It’s a time for us to choose between America or Trump. Do we want a country that’s so deeply divided that it’s impossible to hold a conversation? Or do we want to unite this country and fix the wounds that this president has opened as we relive the past. The United States cannot take four more years of this. Bullying, hatred, racism, xenophobia, and bigotry that is normalized by a white supremacist in the White House, Donald J. Trump. This is not who we are. We are better than this. In fact, most people in America are better than this. It’s just that everyone doesn’t vote. We must unite this country and fix it as one America.
Former Vice President Joe Biden clinched the nomination last night on June 4th, securing the 1,991 delegates to become the Democratic nominee. Joe Biden needs to be elected in November. While some may not agree with all of Biden’s policies, he will work to serve the American people first. From there, we can push him to be a better president, take responsibility, and lead us forward. Those are three things that Donald Trump has never done.
Some have sold their souls to this president as some kind of loyalty test. He tells his most loyal supporters that every network is “Fake News” and “The True Enemy of the People” when he doesn’t like the coverage, which is factual reporting. Remaining loyal to the President is not what America is about. Being president is about what the people want, not about serving yourself and your own interests before the people’s. When the President does something wrong, we need to recognize it, demand action, then demand change. As Theodore Roosevelt once said, “To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.” With Donald Trump in office, he will only continue to act in authoritarian ways.
The Trump Administration is a failure. They have failed on the Coronavirus pandemic, they have failed on giving the middle class tax cuts, they have failed at recognizing police brutality and white privilege. Yet here they are out on Fox News gaslighting…
