America’s Democracy Almost Died On A PowerPoint Presentation

We’ve all used PowerPoint at some point in our lives. Whether it was for a school project, an important business meeting, or a presentation to a large audience. But never did we think that it would be used by our own government to attempt to shred the Constitution of the United States. Our 244 year experiment of democracy was about to die on a PowerPoint presentation concocted and plotted by the Trump White House.

The Coup
America’s democracy was hanging by a thread when thousands of Trump supporters stormed the United States Capitol building on January 6th, 2021. They were egged on by the outgoing president for months, whose goal was to delay the Joint Session of Congress’s duty of counting of the electoral votes and overturn a fair and free election, which he lost. Nearly 150 were injured that day, including 138 police officers, and some resulted in deaths.

The 36-page PowerPoint, dated January 5th, and titled “Election Fraud, Foreign Interference, & Options For 6 JAN” was given to the January 6th Committee by Former Chief of Staff Mark Meadows. This is the exact same day where Steve Bannon told his listeners on his podcast that “all hell is going to break loose tomorrow.” In this presentation full of blatant lies, propaganda, and far right talking points to feed to an echo chamber, it shows the lengths Donald Trump and his administration were willing to go in order to subvert the will of the people. After releasing 6,000 pages of documents, including texts messages, Mark Meadows has since told the Committee that he will not show up to Congress after being subpoenaed and claimed his talks with the Former President are “executive privilege”. President Biden made clear that only a sitting president has that authority. Meadows will be the second high profile name to be held in contempt of Congress who was in the Trump orbit and involved in the January 6th insurrection planning.
